Construction and architecture
When Hildasholm was built in 1910, Axel Munthe hired the architect Torben Grut, known for having drawn Solliden for Crown Princess Victoria and later Stockholm Stadium.
The house is characterised by national romanticism and influences from the British The Arts and Crafts movement, where genuine materials and craftsmanship was the focus. The architecture avoids mixing styles and is characterised by clean lines.
The main building, called Stone farm, is brick-built with a rough plastered façade, small chequered windows and a high hipped roof with black glazed tiles. Two smaller wing buildings follow the same style.
The construction was carried out by parish master builder Hallmans Per Karlsson from Tibble and was completed in autumn 1911 at a cost of approximately SEK 40 000.
