Anna Bergman Jurell works in ceramics and exhibits some of her heads in earthenware. With a background as a costume designer in theatre, Anna approaches her sculptures in the same way as when creating a costume. You build a character and often a small accessory is an essential detail.
"I like the clay to be as soft as possible without sticking to my hands. Soak it and work in stages. Mould something rough out of a sticky gooey lump that is allowed to settle for a few days, then you can start sculpting."
In August, Anna Bergman Jurell and Nils Harning will be presenting Luisa Casati Installation, a permanent art installation at Axel Munthe's Villa San Michele, opening 21 August 2025.
Anna's ceramic heads will be on display outside the South Wing from the end of June.
